We’re both over the moon with our new baby and want to spend every minute with her? Does everyone feel like this?
This is lovely to hear. Congratulations. Parenting ought to be an idyllic experience in the ideal world but may not be with the realities of physical, mental and emotional stresses taking there toll. However many parents can experience a euphoric sense due to the new addition to the family. This can be a brief event or could last for some time. All of us have unique reactions to becoming a parent. Some people’s reactions are less positive.
Expectations from our own childhood, family and friends influence this. The pregnancy and labour process may also affect the situation. Sleep deprivation, the gender and behaviour of your baby; many factors’ influence you’re bonding process. If you have the time together to enjoy your baby – indulge. They are small for a short period of time. Growing up happens quickly and there is often an urgency to wish your child on to the next milestone of development. Take pleasure in what they can do now and enjoy. There are ways to enhance this experience such as baby massage, family walks and enjoying time together.
Unfortunately the need to return to some pattern of pre baby life probably will return, due to a need for one or both of you to return to work. Try and timetable family time into your lives so you can continue to delight in your child.
