I want to breastfeed but I am just so tired! Any advice?

Firstly, motherhood is exhausting, no matter which method of feeding you choose. The experience of childbirth can be a lot for your body to recover from, and it can take a bit of time. Breastfeeding, I think, is very clever in that it makes sure that, you are sitting down and resting, the perfect way to put your feet up! The top tips I would give might seem obvious:

  • REST!! Sleep when the baby sleeps if you can, even if that is in the middle of the day!
  • Make sure you’re eating a well balanced diet
  • Do yourself a favour and call in some! Get your partner, family, friends to give you a hand to make life easier, at least till you are established with your feeding and have recovered from the lack of sleep. Shopping, housework, cooking, you don’t have to do it all yourself.
  • Keep your visitors to a minimum, especially in the early days. Get your partner to help deflect any unwanted guests!

Be guided by your body and look after it, you will soon be back to your old self again!
Also, try not to let exhaustion prevent you from enjoying your new baby, take advantage of the breastfeed for a good cuddle! It’s the perfect way to spend time with your baby.
